I have been wanting to do something unique for a gender reveal session for some time. This idea had been sitting in the back of my mind just waiting for someone to ask me to plan one for them. I’m so happy it ended up being for Lori & Bobby. They are one of the sweetest couples I know and we have a long photo history. 😉 I was a second shooter the day of their beautiful wedding, years ago, and have taken photos for them ever since.
I was the most nervous about this particular session though, wanting to make sure it was perfect for them and that no hint of baby Walsh’s gender was leaked beforehand. The day of their session was excruciating for me! Terrified that the helium wouldn’t last long enough, I waited around until RIGHT before time to blow all the balloons up and add the ribbon. Then, as fast as I could, get them all perfectly staked into the ground and set up in time before they arrived. I was incredibly worried they would show up early and catch me taking the bright pink balloons through the property before I had a chance to blindfold them. I kept in constant contact asking “where are you?!?!” and “don’t get here early!!!” Thankfully my family jumped in to help me get it all done and it turned out wonderfully!
It was only slightly weird guiding two blindfolded people through the woods though. haha! They were such good sports and I adore their reactions. Before I had them remove the blindfolds I asked them what they thought they were having. Bobby said “a girl”, Lori “a boy”. From her squeals and tears of joy I am positive she wanted a girl!
Okay, taking photos of people blowing glitter off of their hands is no joke. It was painful, like being in a sandstorm..which I have experienced so I know! I ended up covered in it from head to toe and was still finding glitter in my hair days later. I should have used a different lens and stood much farther away. Lesson learned on that one! Completely hilarious memories though. Just ask Lori & Bobby. Right you guys? 😉
My husband, Jeremy, took a little cell phone video clip of the initial reveal. I love hearing Lori squeal when she realizes she is having a baby GIRL! So sweet!
